On 15 and 16 May 2019, the VDMA NRW Managing Board met with political representatives in Berlin and discussed political developments with representatives of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and members of the Bundestag. The topic of "reducing bureaucracy" in particular was on the agenda.
The turnover of the North Rhine-Westphalian mechanical and plant engineering industry last year reached 44.4 billion euros, exceeding the expectations of the VDMA NRW. Sales were 1.8 billion euros higher than in the previous year. For 2019, the association is forecasting nominal sales growth of 1 percent.
In recent years, the focus has increasingly shifted to the reduction of bureaucracy and political framework conditions. This was also the case with the VDMA NRW Managing Board, whose members discussed developments with representatives of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Berlin in June 2018.
Revenue in the mechanical engineering and plant construction industry in North Rhine-Westphalia levelled off at over Euro 42.6 billion in 2017, or about EUR 900 million above the previous year’s figure. VDMA NRW predicts a sales increase of 2 percent nominal and xpects sales of about Euro 43.4 billion in 2018.
The NRW State government has taken the first steps toward reducing bureaucracy in the State, setting the course for a successful future. The first package of measures includes launching a number of undertakings that the economy has been calling for for some time.
