OPC UA - Packing and Implementation
The event takes a look behind the scenes at Beckhoff Automation with regard to OPC UA. The OPC Foundation presents how joint solutions are worked on across company boundaries to define standardized data and interfaces.
OPC UA enables secure, reliable and manufacturer- and platform-independent communication. With OPC UA, sensors, components, machines and controllers from different manufacturers can be networked across hierarchies - making it important for industry 4.0.
The event is part of the series "OPC UA - Packing and Implementing", which offers companies in the industry 4.0 sector the opportunity for active dialogue. The event will be hosted by Beckhoff Automation GmbH & Co. KG in Verl, which implements open automation systems based on PC- and EtherCAT-based control technology. Beckhoff has been a pioneer in the field of open standards for many years, so that a high level of interoperability between Beckhoff and third-party products has been achieved.
An important element here is the OPC UA standard for exchanging information - Beckhoff was the first company worldwide to offer this standard as a product in 2007. OPC UA enables secure, reliable and manufacturer- and platform-independent communication. OPC UA enables cross-hierarchical networking of sensors, components, machines and controllers from different manufacturers - and is therefore important for industry 4.0. The VDMA sees the uniform communication standard OPC UA as the preferred standard due to its members.
The technical properties of the products to be standardized in OPC UA are concrete device and capability information. These are described by object-oriented information models in technical specifications, the OPC UA Companion Specifications. Ideally, such a description is developed directly for an entire industry. The OPC UA Client, which connects to a machine, should be able to understand it as a machine of one type by means of the UA representation - regardless of which manufacturer built this machine. Beckhoff provides comprehensive generic functions in its products and, with TwinCAT, offers an OPC UA interface that complies with the corresponding Companion Specifications of the domains.
During the event, the Beckhoff showroom will be visited, where the product portfolio of the four technology areas "Industrial PC", "I/O and fieldbus components", "Drive technology" and "Automation software" will be presented. Stefan Hoppe, President and Managing Director of the OPC Foundation, will present the OPC Foundation and its significance for mechanical engineering.
The event is offered by ProduktionNRW. ProduktionNRW is the competence network for mechanical engineering and production technology in North Rhine-Westphalia and is managed by the VDMA NRW. ProduktionNRW sees itself as a platform for networking, informing and marketing companies, institutions and networks among themselves and along the value chain. Substantial parts of the services provided by ProduktionNRW are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
